Our Testing Process
We believe you can't review an AI companion app after a few hours of use. Real understanding requires extended, daily interaction. That's why we developed a 30-day testing protocol that goes deeper than any other review site.
Phase 1: Setup & First Impressions (Days 1-3)
- Download, register, and set up the app from scratch
- Evaluate onboarding experience and initial UI/UX
- Test all free features thoroughly
- Purchase the paid plan with our own funds
- Document first impressions, bugs, and friction points
Phase 2: Core Testing (Days 4-21)
- Minimum 20 minutes of active conversation per day
- Test conversation quality across different topics and scenarios
- Evaluate memory system (does it remember previous chats?)
- Test all features: voice calls, image generation, customization
- Track response times, errors, and consistency
- Compare free vs. paid experience
Phase 3: Deep Evaluation (Days 22-28)
- Stress-test edge cases and complex conversation scenarios
- Evaluate long-term memory accuracy
- Test customer support responsiveness
- Compare with competing platforms in same category
Phase 4: Scoring & Writing (Days 29-30)
- Score each criterion independently (see below)
- Fact-check all pricing and feature claims
- Write the review based on documented testing notes
- Internal peer review by a second team member
Scoring Criteria
Every app is scored on a 10-point scale across five core criteria. The final score is a weighted average:
| Conversation Quality (25%) | How natural, engaging, and contextually aware are the AI responses? |
| Features & Functionality (25%) | What can you do beyond basic chat? Voice, images, customization, etc. |
| Memory & Continuity (20%) | Does the AI remember previous conversations? How consistent is personality? |
| Value for Money (15%) | How much do you get relative to what you pay? |
| UI/UX Design (15%) | Is the app well-designed, fast, and pleasant to use? |
Our Score Guide
| 9.0-10.0 | Exceptional — Best in class. Highly recommended. |
| 8.0-8.9 | Excellent — Strong performer with minor weaknesses. |
| 7.0-7.9 | Good — Solid option with notable trade-offs. |
| 6.0-6.9 | Average — Has potential but significant limitations. |
| Below 6.0 | Below average — We would not recommend. |
Independence & Transparency
- We pay for everything. Every subscription is purchased with our own money. We never accept free accounts for review purposes.
- No paid placements. Companies cannot pay to appear on our site or influence their score.
- Affiliate links. We earn revenue through affiliate links. If you click a link and subscribe, we may earn a commission. This is clearly disclosed and never influences editorial scores.
- Monthly updates. AI apps change frequently. We re-test and update reviews to ensure accuracy.
